Advantages and Disadvantages of Spandex Fabric

Maybe you have heard of polyester, acrylic and other fabrics, but you are relatively unfamiliar with spandex. In fact, spandex is also widely used in the field of clothing. For example, many of the tights, sportswear and even the soles we wear are made of spandex. What kind of fabric is it, and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
What Is Spandex Fabric:
Spandex has extremely high extensibility, so it is also called elastic fiber. In addition, it has similar physical properties to natural latex silk, but it has stronger resistance to chemical degradation, and its thermal stability is generally higher than 200 degrees Celsius. Spandex fabrics are resistant to sweat and salt, but they tend to fade after exposure to the sun.
The biggest feature of spandex is its strong elasticity, which can stretch up to 5 to 8 times without damaging the fiber. Under normal circumstances, spandex needs to be blended with other fibers and cannot be woven alone, and most of the proportions will be less than 10%. The proportion of spandex in swimwear will account for 20% of the blend
Advantages of Spandex Fabric:
As mentioned earlier, it has excellent extensibility, so the corresponding shape retention of the fabric will also be very good, and the spandex fabric will not leave wrinkles after folding. Although the hand feel is not as soft as cotton, the overall feeling is good, and the fabric is very comfortable after wearing it, which is very suitable for the production of close-fitting clothes. Spandex is a kind of chemical fiber, which has the characteristics of acid and alkali resistance and aging resistance. The good dyeing performance also makes the spandex fabric not fade under normal use
Disadvantages of Spandex Fabric:
Poor hygroscopicity is the main disadvantage of spandex, so its comfort level is not as good as that of natural fibers such as cotton and linen. Spandex cannot be used alone, and is generally blended with other fabrics according to the use of the fabric. Its heat resistance is relatively poor.
